I'm conducting research at the Abbey of Montecassino in central Italy from now until November, and the public transit wouldn't work for my needs. I was lucky enough to get a little funding from my department for travel expenses and, coupled with my salary for teaching on online class this Fall, I was able to make the trip work, along with a pretty sweet new car: http://imgur.com/a/lmVoS
It's a Renault Megane Coupe RS 265 (the contract actually doesn't give the year, believe it or not. I'm assuming a 2015, I'll have to check the registration.), brand spankin' new. I used a program called Renault OpenEurope, since I needed a car for about 2 months. Basically, you get to lease a new car for up to several months, for less than it would cost to rent from a traditional rental agency. The price difference between this and leasing something much more bland like a Clio was only a couple hundred dollars after all was said and done, so I decided to live a little. I've only driven it in my post-flight jetlagged haze so far, but it's left a good impression. A little torque-steer, but that's to be expected in a car like this. It's a very interesting change of pace from my 15 year old Mustang GT back home!
I don't see too many cars like this posted around here, so I thought people may be interested. If anyone wants more detail about how I got the car, feel free to PM me or post. Peugeot also offers something similar.
