In a similar fashion to another /r/cars user from a few months ago, I rented some sports cars from fun2drive, and took them around the mountains of Japan.
I included a lot of information for people that might also want to go try this in the future. The user from a few months ago that posted here did a guided tour with the shop owner, but I did a "given the keys and you are on your own" type of rental. You can ignore the wall of text if you don't want to read all of that.
Like /u/TAcobjobCO mentioned as well, I 100% recommend this experience for any /r/cars users that decide to go on a trip to Japan!
