So today i test drove the XC90 for the second time. Some facts about the car first. D5 engine, 1969cc four-cylinder turbodiesel, 222bhp @ 4250rpm, 347lb ft @ 1750-2500rpm. Eight-speed automatic, four-wheel drive. 7.4sec 0-62mph.
Well just by the specs you already know that this is not some sort of an 0-60 or top speed monster. This is about luxury and comfort, and boy have they succeeded. With the air suspension and the smooth engine the car just rolls down the street with no noise what so ever. The transmission could use some work..even on the lower speeds and when you want to accelerate. The cockpit is a cocoon of luxury. Really nice leather and a well constructed environment. One of the best things in the car is the big touchscreen in the middle, you controls almost everything from there except the driving modes, which you change by using a small, luxurious knob.
How about the space in the car? Well it's great, you can fit 7 fully grown men in the car, but it's not optimal. The 2 back seats are probably best suited for children. Otherwise the seats are greats, one of the best seats on the market.
But to summarise the experience. Great comfort, smooth engine, extremely well built. But if you want a faster, more sportier car, I would look at the Q7 3.0 TDI instead. Drove it last week a wow..it's a really fast SUV.
