I'm a wannabe car guy who youtube fixes little things on his cars, but I've come up with a few questions along the way that I can't get good answers for, so r/car gurus, bear with my stupidity.
(I have a 91 camaro RS and a 92 Subaru SVX for perspective)
What's the point of premium fuels, versus cheap fuel? I know the octane level is different, but what does it mean. If i put cheap guel in a premium only car, will it hurt it? Premium in my clunker to improve anything?
Synthetic oils versus regular oil? Whats the difference? Can I switch cars between without modification? Is it cost effective to switch from regular to synthetic?
What are the point of hood scoops, like on the WRX? Are the air intakes behind it? Or it just for looks? What about bolt on parts? How heavy duty is the modification to make a bolt on useful? (I like the look but I hate the thought of putting that on as a hood ornament)
What are the best places to learn basic maintenance? Like a list off how often to change out the different oils (besides the 7500 miles for engine oil). How often to do spark plugs and check other things. (i like lists and schedules that I can follow)
What about mods to make my car perform better? Faster specifically, if my car is old, what should I upgrade first?
I'll add follow up questions as I think of them...
