Couple days ago I was sitting with friends at a cafe nearby a busy road, some guy accelerated pretty hard with his car. I could not see what type of car it was but it was pretty loud so I guess it had at least some exhaust modifications. (There are not many loud cars around here without some mods...)
Anyway, when this guy shifted up, the car made momentarily a sound like "brrrrt". It's not what people are used to from blow-off valves or anything like that. It is similar to the sound an A-10 makes when firing small bursts of ammo.
What could this be? Couple months ago I witnessed the same thing from a BMW (also seemingly modified) that made the same sound, it could even be the same car (since I haven't seen the one from couple days ago).
(Sorry for my ignorance if present, I'm not really a cars guys but genuinely curious)
pre-edit: on a second thought, could this be the sound of a rev limiter? do rev limiters sound like that nowadays?
