I'm a 22 year old heading down to Texas for a job (I live in Virginia). I've been using my dad's 2006 Honda Civic for transport here for my last job, and I am on the insurance. However, my dad has said he's giving the car to me as a gift.
This will apparently involve transferring the title and registering the car under my name. However, do I have to register it in Virginia or can I register it in Texas once I arrive? Do I have to register it in Virginia now and then register it again in Texas?
I'm not sure how this works, but I found that the transaction of gifting to a child is tax-exempt (I think) and there is a form for that.
I was wondering if anybody has been through something like this before and if they have, please help!
