MFW I walked in the door after finishing up.
My 2005 Subaru Forester started having AC problems the day after I had a friend put some R134a in it. It only blew freezing cold a few hours before it started spitting out hot Texas air. Seriously? When it's 104 out??
It would only blow cold air intermittently. I'd get in the car, and the AC would work for five or ten minutes, then stop working. A strange sound came from under the hood when it would start blowing hot. I took it to a local mechanic who said it was likely the compressor. He said it'd cost $70 to diagnose, and if the compressor needed to be replaced, a $700 repair.
I took it home and noticed that the compressor was clicking. It would spin for a few seconds, then stop for a few seconds, and so on. I found a great DIY guide to adjust the AC clutch that I decided to try out. I was scared I was going to mess up my car somehow, but decided to grow some ovaries and try it out.
Now my AC is cool and wonderful!
I'm really proud of myself. I never thought I'd be one to know anything about cars, let alone work on them in a capacity that most people don't. It was such a daunting task and ended up being way easier than I expected. And I spent only $6 getting the hardware recommended in that guide.
