Yesterday my dad bought a 2002 Nissan Altima from craigslist. I looked at the title and somethings did not check out. 1st, The guy who sold it on craigslist has his contact name as Tyler, but the title says Michael. 2nd, the title was established and issues 2 days before he sold it. 3rd, he sold it to my dad at a gas station that is about 15min away from where the title says. I checked the VIN on vincheck on the ncib.gov website and it states as follows:*********(took out the actual VIN) has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Theft Records. I was not with my dad when he bought it, but the ncib vin check website states that nothing is wrong with it. My dad said that the guy had to change the address, but he cannot exactly remember what the guy said. It was originally for $1700, but he took off $70 because on the craigslist ad it stated 200K miles, but, when he drove it, the car has 220K miles. I am taking it to my DMV on Monday, and hope that it all checks out. Could this car be stolen? The gas station captured the guys face and my dad has the number from the craigslist ad(which is still on craigslist).
